Short Films...

"What Makes a Good Short? There are no hard-and-fast rules as to what makes a good short film but here are a few tips that might help.

  • An Exciting & Original Idea
  • A Strong Script
  • Good Acting
  • High Production Values
  • Make It Short
  • Strong Beginning
  • Avoid Repetition & Punchline Twists
  • Exciting New Techniques & Style"
Most short films are either funny, meaningful or disturbing, one way or another, they are inteded to 'stick with us' so we will remember something.. some are spine-chilling such as LOOP, a one minute long film by the spanish writer Aritz Moreno, it depicts a man who is going through a cycle.

I found an example of comedy from the website Virgin Media Shorts, which promotes undiscovered talent through short films, these are often shown in Cinema City before seeing a entire film.
My example is a documentry-style short film about a dog called Hugo. http://www.virginmediashorts.co.uk/film/2345/hugo
